Microsoft pubCenter Open for Business
************************************
pubCenter? Is that the new brew pub Microsoft planned to open on its Redmond campus after a year of preparation, only to announce a week ago that it was shutting down, and then promptly reversed course (over mild protests on Facebook), and is now opening up again (called the Spitfire Pub)?
Let's hope there's no confusing that microbrew pub with Microsoft pubCenter, Microsoft's answer to Google AdSense and the Yahoo Publisher Network. If you have a thirst for Website monetization, Microsoft invites you to "Turn Your Traffic into Profit."
With the pubCenterBeta, now open to the public at large, you can:
o Place ads on your web site—realizing revenue potential with relevant ads targeted to your audience.
o Customize ads to the look and feel of your web site.
o Gain access to one of the largest advertising networks, delivering high-quality ads.
o Monitor performance with a variety of tracking features.
There's no sign-up cost and you can continue to use other ad networks.
In other news, perhaps a reason for MS executives to start drinking at the new brew pub, Microsoft has posted the first ever year-over-year drop in revenue. Bottoms' up!

MySpace Founders Tipped for Exit. Ex-Facebook Prez to Helm.
*********************************************************
MySpace users, by the millions, have just lost a friend. Their very first MySpace friend in fact. Co-founder and president Tom Anderson and CEO Chris DeWolfe have been tipped to exit the picture by the very same executive who flatlined AOL, Jonathan Miller, a manager who was brought in ostensibly to rescue MySpace, Reportedly, Chris DeWolfe's exit is involuntary but Tom Anderson is in discussions about a continued role at the company. Mr. DeWolfe will remain on the board of MySpace China.
Breaking news: Former Facebook exec Owen Van Natta will be named the new CEO of MySpace, as early as tomorrow, according to sources close to the situation.
The News Corporation, which Rupert Murdoch controls, bought MySpace in 2005 for $580 million after a heated bidding war with Viacom. Initially, the acquisition was viewed as a major coup for Mr. Murdoch, but more recently it has fallen short of expectations.
Last year the company’s digital unit, Fox Interactive Media, of which MySpace is the largest piece, fell an estimated 10 percent short of a much-hyped revenue projection of $1 billion.

Nielsen: Online Video Continues to Gain Momentum
**********************************************
In a new report, Nielsen Online takes a closer look at how social media and video sites have reshaped the Web and the online advertising market over the last few years, especially in the context of the current economic crisis. According to Nielsen, since 2003, the time spent on video sites has increased by over 2,000%, and the number of Americans who visit online video sites like YouTube and Hulu has climbed 339% over the same time period.
The current trend towards watching more online video should drive more advertisers towards this medium, while for social media, according to Nielsen, "a monetization formula continues to elude the globe's brightest marketers." Nielsen, however, is also very positive about how Twitter and other social networks have broken down the feedback barriers between brands and consumers.

How To Show Google Base Products in Google AdWords Ads
*****************************************************
Have you uploaded product SKU's to GoogleBase including images? Want to have those images show up in AdWords with select content partners?
In the Googlebase admin panel, click on the new link to "Share with AdWords." According to Google, "You can now specify your AdWords account information in your Google Base account. By doing this, you can surface your Google Base product information in your AdWords ads. AdWords campaigns that are linked to Google Base accounts will receive the benefit of richer, more specific product information in their creatives; including images and prices."
There has NOT been an official announcement on this new feature by Google...yet!

SEO Organic Search Tip of the Week: Social Media & Link Juice! What's Juicin'?
*********************************************************************************************
With all the buzz about Link juice and 'Juicin' your Site,' we're beginning to feel a bit like the fan base of Jack LaLanne, the octogenarian and original "Power Juicer." Still, the question comes up more and more often -- with the bumper crop of new social media sites making their debut, which ones squeeze out Link Juice for links back to your targeted site and which strain that nutritious linky goodness with a "rel=no-follow" filter?
Facebook: While Facebook links don’t pass juice you can still get useful links by using FaceBook markup language, or FBML, to customize your pages. Hubspot’s recent article on the subject provides more detail here:
<http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/4640/Facebook-Gives-SEO-Credit-to-Links-in-FBML-Applications.aspx>
Twitter: Before it took wing from the nest, Twitter did not implement no-follow so spammers began clamoring for Twitter links. In disgust, Twitter instituted no-followed bio-links, but links in posts are still technically do-follow. As a side-note, link juice from TinyURL, which is the URL shortener used by Twitter, has been questionable o the subject of passing link value through its translator (as you might expect). And yet, lots of Twitter posts show up elsewhere on the web as they are indexed. So you could still end up getting juice for them.
A good Twitter strategy to follow is to create an account with FriendFeed and feed your Twitter updates through your FriendFeed account since FriendFeed does not use no-follow. Just post your links naturally to FriendFeed.
To complete the thought on URL shorteners, if and when TinyURL prevents passing link juice, you might think of using Twhirl which offers users the option of three different URL shorteners.
Stumbleupon: Another great social media site that does not use no-follow is Stumbleupon. If you participate in the right way, which means reciprocating and not spamming, and avoid the obvious self-aggrandizement of submitting what are clearly your own pages in abundance, you can get a significant amount of traffic from SU too. If you want to avoid being penalized by SU, don’t make the huge mistake of submitting your main page: submit each individual blog post for best results (that is, get someone else to submit it!).
Mixx: Mixx also passes linkjuice as of this report. This is a comparatively new bookmarking site, but it is fast gaining ground on Digg, especially since Digg banned a huge number of power-users in 2008, forcing them elsewhere–they nearly all ended up on Mixx giving that new venue a huge boost. Incidentally, Digg itself also still passes linkjuice.
Slashdot: With an enviable Google PR of 9, Slashdot also passes valuable linkjuice, so don’t overlook that one. You will get more chance of getting pages indexed from your social media accounts if you use them regularly. Participation is key to successful social media link propagation.
WordPress: Getting the Most LinkJuice from WordPress. Lastly: if you choose to use WordPress for your main business website you can use a do-follow plugin. The advantage to this is that it actually encourages readers to comment and to link back to you from their sites.
